At Methodist University I got a great chance to intern last semester with a local Arena Indoor Football Team called the Fayetteville Force. When I first met with the exectutives of the team, they gave everyone a run down on what needed to be done during the week before the game and on gameday. I was fortunate enough to be put on game day operations. This was my foot in the door to see how a real sports team operates behind the scenes of an actual game.
So today out of Boston’s best sports radio station WEEI, Dennis and Callahan’s morning show gave Red Sox Nation the news none of us wanted to hear, “A deal has been made.” Theo Epstein the GM of the Red Sox signed a 5 year deal for nearly 20 mil with the 103 year massacre that is the Chicago Cubs. Ever since the worst collapse/choke in MLB history, sox fans knew this time was coming for either Theo or Francona, or maybe even both. Ever since he became the Sox GM in 2002, it’s been nothing but good things for the sox as they won their first championship in 86 years in 2004 and won it again in 2007. He brought in all-star players like Josh Beckett, Papelbon, Crawford and Gonzales, but also brought in good players and made them great players like Jacoby Ellsbury and Dustin Pedroia. If it wasnt for the smarts of good ol Brookline, MA native Epstien, I don’t know if we would of won those world championships, I mean the players played the games he didn’t, but he brought those players together and being present at the World Series makes me never want to disband the Sox. Since the Sox and the Cubs were in the same boat before ’04 I’ve always been a Cubs fan and I would love to see Theo give them the same magic he gave us and take them to a championship. Unless we met them in Fall Classic of Course. As for the Sox, “you got some splainnin too doo.”
It is now day 102 of the NBA Lockout and I still haven’t had my question answered. Who gives Melo these clothes, or does he buy them himself? I mean your there representing the NBAPA and you show up in your city where you play dressed like that. I would be embarrased. As for the actual labor talks, the NBA and NBAPA reps talked today and apparently the season is going to be cancelled or atleast the first couple of weeks. I dont think the NBA will have their usual 82 game season which sucks beacause that means there will only be a 2 sport winter season with football and hockey and without Basketball it makes the winter less entertaining for sports. The only plus I can think of with a shortened season is that the Vets for the C’s can rest so they can be ready to win their 18th Banner.
Thought I’d post this cause I was just listening to it American Girl
Can anyone tell me why Boston is the best sports city in the world? I mean 7 titles in 10 years…damn thats good
